Precast/Prestressed Girder Help

Ultimate Capacity

The ultimate capacity calculations are done in accordance with the unified approach for the design of prestressed and reinforced concrete, as specified in Art. 8.8.3. In the design parameters dialog, user can specify if the strain compatibility option or the use of equations as in the C8.8.4 (Commentary, S6.1-06). Only the prestressed steel, sufficiently adjusted in the development length zones, will be considered and no deck steel or any steel input by the user for improving transformed section properties will be considered in ultimate moment capacity calculations. If the check box for consider bottom tension reinforcement steel contribution is checked, and the user did provide mild steel in the bottom of the beam, then this steel contribution is considered automatically in computing the capacity.

The factored resistance (Mr) and nominal resistance (Mf) are calculated. At all tenth point sections, the amount of prestressed tensile reinforcement provided is checked to see if it satisfies the minimum reinforcement provisions as specified in Article 8.8.4.3.
